A human adult breathes in approximately ...

A human adult breathes in approximately `0*50 dm^(3)` of air `1*00` bar with each breath. If an air tank holds `100 dm^(3)` of air at `200` bar. How many breaths the tank will supply? Assume that the temperature is `37^(@)C`.

From the given data :
Volume of air in the tank `(V_(1)) = 100 dm^(3)` : Pressure of air in the tank `(P_(1)) = 200` bar
Pressure of air in each breath `(P_(2)) = 1` bar , `:.` Volume of air at `1` bar pressure `(V_(2)) = ?`
Since temperature is constant, Boyle's Law is applicable.
`P_(1)V_(1) = P_(2)V_(2)` or `V_(2) = (P_(1)V_(1))/(P_(2))`
`V_(2) = ((200 "bar")xx(100 dm^(3)))/((1 "bar")) = 20,000 dm^(3)`
Volume of air breathed in each breath `= 0.50 dm^(3)`
Total no. of breaths the tank will supply `= ("Total volume of air")/("Volume of air in each breath") = (2000)/(0.50) = 40,000` breaths.
