A flask was heated from `27^(@)C` to `227^(@)C` at constant pressure. Calculate the volume of the flask if `0.1 dm^(3)` of air measured at `27^(@)C` was expelled from the flask.

Let the volume of the flask `= V dm^(3)` (after expelling the air)
`V_(1) = V dm^(3) ,T_(1) = 27 + 273 = 300 K`
`V_(2) = (V + 0.1) dm^(3) , T_(2) = 227 + 273 = 500 K`
Since the pressure of the gas is constant, Charles' law is applicable .
`(V_(1))/(V_(2)) = (T_(1))/(T_(2))` or `V_(1) = (T_(1))/(T_(2)) xx V_(2)`
or `V = ((300 K) xx (V + 0.1 dm^(3)))/((500 K))` or `V = (3(V + 0.1))/(5) dm^(3)`
or `5V - 3V = 0.3 dm^(3)` or `2V = 0.3 dm^(3)`
`:. V = (0.3 dm^(3))/(2) = 0.15 dm^(3)`
