How will you distinguish between phenol and benozic acid ?

Dissolve both the substances separately in water in two tubes. Add a small amount of sodium bicarbonate to both. The tube in which a brisk effervescence in observed, contains benzoic acid and the tube in which no effervescence in noticed contains phenol.
