`BeO` is more stable than `BeCO_(3)` due to small size and high polarising power of `Be^(2+)`. As `BeCO_(3)` is unstable and `BeO` is more stable thus, when `BeCO_(3)` is kept in an atmosphere of `CO_(2)`, a reversible process tales place and stability of `BeCO_(3)` increases.
