When acidulated water (dil. `H_(2)SO_(4)` solution) is electrolysed, with pH of the solution be affected? Justify your answer.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Since pH of solution depends upon concentration of `H^(+)` presence in solution. pH of the solution will not be affected as `[H^(+)]` remains constant
At anode `2H_(2)Orarr O_(2)+4H^(+)+4e^(-)`
At cathode `4H^(-)+4e^(-)rarr2H_(2)`
