Write the Nernst equation for the cell reaction in the Daniel cell. How will the `E_("cell")` be affected when concentration of `Zn^(+)` ions is increased?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`Zn+Cu^(2+)+Cu`
`E_("cell")^(@)-(0.0591)/(2)"log"[(Zn^(2+))/(Cu^(2+))]`
`E_("cell")^(@)=E_("cell")^(@)+(0.0591)/(2)"log"[(Cu^(2+))/(Zn^(2+))]`
According to the equation
`E_("cell")^(@)` is directily dependnet on cocnentration of `Cu^(2+)` and inversely dependnet upon concentration of `Zn^(2+)` ions.
`E_("cell")^(@)` decrease when concentration of `Zn^(2+)` ions is increased.
