A current of `3.6A` is a passed for 6 hrs between Pt electrodes in `0.5L` of `2M` solution of `Ni(NO_(3))_(2)`. What will be the molarity of solution at the end of electrolysis?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The electolysis of `Ni(NO_3)_2` in presence of Ni electrode will bring in following changes :
At anode: `NitoNi^(2+)+3e`
At cathode: `Ni^(2+)+3etoNi`
Eq. of `Ni^(2+)` formed =Eq. of `Ni^(2+)` lost
thus , there will be no change in conc. of `Ni(NO_3)_2` solution during electrolysis i.e,
It will remain 2M
