How many Cl atoms can you ionize in the ...

How many Cl atoms can you ionize in the process `Cl to Cl^(+) + e` by the energy liberated for the process `Cl + e to Cl^(-)` for one Avogadro number of atoms. Given IP = 13.0 eV, and EA = 3.60 eV. Avogadro number = `6 xx 10^(23)`.

The energy liberated during the addition during the addition of electron to neutral isolated gaseous atom is electron affinity. For chlorine
`Cl_(g) + e^(-) rarr Cl_(g)^(-) , E_(A) = 3.60 eV//"atom"`
For one mole i.e., Avogadro number of chlorine atoms
`3.60 xx 6 xx 10^(23) = 21.6 xx 10^(23) eV`.
The ionisation energy of chlorine atom
`Cl rarr Cl^(+) + e^(-) is 13.0 eV`.
The number of Cl atoms that ionise with `21.6 xx 10^(23) eV` is
`(21.6 xx 10^(23))/(13.0) = 1.662 xx 10^(23)`.
