Atomic radius refer to both metallic radius and covalent radius.
(a) Atomic radius: As the atomic radius increases, the distance between the nucleus and the outermost electrons increases. Hence, the effective nuclear charge on the outermost electrons decreases. As a result of which the energy required to remove the electrons decrease. From this it is evident that as atomic radius increase I.P decrease. Similarly as atomic radius decrease I.P increases.
