What is octet rule ?...

What is octet rule ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Atoms having octet (8 electrons) in their valence shell e.g. insert gases (except He) are stable. Atoms which do not have octet in their valence shell will try to get octet either by losing or by gaining or by sharing electrons to acquire stability. This is known as octet rule.
