Why argon does not form Ar(2) molecule ?...

Why argon does not form `Ar_(2)` molecule ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Electronic configuration of `""_(18)Ar` is `1s^(2)2s^(2)2p^(6)3s^(2)3p^(6)`.
Since the atoms of argon contain eight electrons in their valence shell they are stable and do not participate in bonding. So Argon do not form `Ar_(2)` molecules.
