The compound AgF(2) is unstable compound...

The compound `AgF_(2)` is unstable compound. However, if formed, the compound acts as a very strong oxidising agent. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`AgF_(2)` is unstable. So it dissociate into AgF and F. The fluorine liberated is a strong oxidising agent. The Ag present in `AgF_(2)` is in +2 oxidation state. This unstable `Ag^(2+)` will be reduced to stable `Ag^(+)` during this reaction.
