At the same temperature and pressure volumeof a gas `prop` No.of moles(n) . So, when the gas mixture is passed through a red hot charcoal tube then `CO_(2)+Crarr2CO`. So, if there was (say) ‘x’ litre of `CO_(2)` in the mixture then the volume of CO formed will be '2x'. Also, volume of CO in the mixture would be `(1 - x)`. So, total volume of CO finally becomes `(1-x)+2x=1+x=1.4` litre . So, the volume of originally will be 0.4 litre and CO will be 0.6 litre.
