Calculate the work done when 1.0 mol of ...

Calculate the work done when `1.0` mol of water at `373K` vaporises against an atmosheric pressure of `1.0atm`. Assume ideal gas behaviour.

`Delta V =` Volume occupied by one mole water vapour - volume of one mole of water.
Here, the volume occupied by water is very small and thus, `Delta V` is equal to the volume occupied by one mole of water vapour.
i.e., `Delta V=` Volume occupied by one mole water vapour `=(nRT)/(P)`.
`Delta V=(1.0xx0.0821xx373)/(1.0)=-30.623` litre.
`therefore W=-P Delta V=-1xx30.623 =-30.623` atm. litre
`W=-30.623xx101.3 J=-3102.14 J`.
