There is a solution of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and p-amino benzonoc acid. Discuss one method by which we can separate them and also write down the confirmatory test of the functional group present.

Verified by Experts

For the separation of p-hydroxy benzoic acid and p-aminobenzoic acid with a solution, the solution is treated with HCl. Therefore, p- aminobenzoic acid is remains in solution in form of ammonium salt, while p- hydroxybenzoic acid is not soluble (non -soluble, so it is separated easily)

Test : 1. With `NaHCO_(3)` both evolve effervescences

Test 2. Azodye test: p-aminobenzoic acid gives azodye test while p- hydroxybenzoic acid does not give azodye test.
Test: 3. Liebermann nitroso test: p-hydrxy benzoic acid gives Liebermann nitroso test, while p- amino benzoic acid does not give Lieberman nitroso test.

Which of the functional group(s) is/are present in the amino acids ?

Enzymes are proteins, Proteins are long chains of amino acids linked to each other by peptide bonds. Amino acids have many functional groups in their structure. These functional groups are many of them at least, ionisable. As they are weak acids and bases in chemical nature, this ionisatio is infuluenced by pH of the solution. For many enzymes, activity is influenced by surrounding pH. This is depicted in the curve below, explain briefly.
