A motor cycle is travelling on a curved ...

A motor cycle is travelling on a curved track of radius 500 m. If the coefficient of friction between the tyres and road is 0.5, with `g = 10 ms^ -2`. What should be the maximum speed to avoid skidding

A

`500 ms^-1`

B

`250 ms^-1`

C

`50 ms^-1`

D

`10 ms^-1`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`v=u="gt"`
`implies0=u-"gt"` ( `:.v=0` at maximumheight)
`T=u/g`
At`t=T/2,v=u-g t`
`u-"gt"/2=u-g((u)/(2g))=u/2`
At time `T/2`,the velocity is `u/2`
Time taken to reach maximumheight,=T
Time taken to reach the piont of projection =T
Therefore, at the point of projection, body will return with same velocity
i.e,`T+T=2T`.
