How does the force of gravitation between two objects change when the distance between them is reduced to half ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Acoording to Universal Law of gravitation , the gravitational force of attraction between any two objects of mass M and m is proportinal to the product of their massas and inversely proportional to the square of disrtance r between them
`F=G(Mm)/(r^(2))`
According to Question is reduced to half means it will be r/2/
`F'=G(Mm)/(((r^(2))/(2))^(2))=G(Mm)/((r^(2))/(4))=4G(Mm)/(r^(2))`
it means F' =4F
Hence , if the distance is reduced to half , then the gravitatinoal force four times larger than the previous value .
