Two blocks each having a mass of 3.2 kg are connected by a wire CD and the system is suspended from the ceiling by another wire AB . The linear mass density of the wire AB is `10 gm^-1` and that of CD is `8 g m^-1.` Find the speed of a transverse wave pulse produced in AB and in CD.

Tension in string.45 is
`T_(AB) = 6.4 g = 64N`
Thus speed oftransverse waves in stidng AB is `v_(AB) = sqrt(T_(AB)/(mu_(AB))) = sqrt((64)/(10 xx 10^(-3)))`
= sqrt(6400) = 80m/s. Tension in strong CD is
`T = 3.2 g = 32N`
Thus speed oftransverse waves in string CD is `v_(CD) = sqrt(T_(CD)/(mu_(DC))) = sqrt((32)/(8 xx 10^(-3)))` = `sqrt(4000)`
= `63.24 m/s`
