A sonometer wire having a length of 1.50 m between the bridges vibrates in its second harmonic in resonance with a tuning fork of frequency 256 Hz. What is the speed of the transverse wave on the wire ?

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
384 m/s

For second harmonic we use
`n_(f) = (2v)/(2l)`
`v = n_(f)l = 256 xx 1.5` = 384 m/s.
