Two waves are given by`y_(1) = a sin (omega t - kx)` and `y_(2) = a cos (omega t - kx)`. The phase difference between the two waves is

A

`pi/4`

B

`pi`

C

`pi/8`

D

`pi/2`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

We have
`y_(1) = asin(omegat - kx)`
`y_(2) = a cos (omegat - kx) = a sin(omegat - kx + (pi)/(2))`
Hence phase difference between these two is `(pi)/(2)`.
