Verified by Experts

Fishes take oxygen through their gills. Gills are richly supplied with blood capillaries and can readily absorb oxygen dissolved in water .Gills of fishes are not equipped to take in gaseous oxygen (oxygen from air). Hence ,a fish when taken out of water is unable to inhale oxygen rich air and so, dies quickly.
