How are chromatin, chromatid and chromosomes related to each other?

Chromatin is intertwined mass of fine thread-link structures made of DNA and protein. During cell division (mitosis or meiosis), chromatin condenses to from thicker rod-like structures called chromosomes. Each chromosome consists of two similar halves called chromatids. Formation of chromosomes having two similar halves of chromatids is meant for equatable distribution of chromatin which is hereditary material.
