Do cells of alveoli or lungs also require oxygen to carry out cellular respiration ? Why / Why not ?

Alveoli are made of squamous epithelium tissue which is very thin and elastic . Alveoli are so thin that oxygen can pass from air filled alveoli to R.B.C inside the vessels .
Simple squamous epithelial cells function as mediators of filtration and diffusion. As these cells are living tissue they also need oxygen this is done through exchange of gases in the alveoli .
