Calculate the kinetic energy of a solid ...

Calculate the kinetic energy of a solid sphere of mass `2kg` rolling down an inclined plane with a velocity of `2m//s` about an axis passing through its diameter.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`K.E. = (1)/(2)mv^(2)(1+(k^(2))/(R^(2)))`
M.l. of solid sphere `= (2)/(5) MR^(2)`
`therefore K = sqrt((2)/(5))R`
`K.E. = (1)/(2)xx2xx4(1+(2)/(5))=(1)/(2)xx2xx4xx(7)/(5)=(28)/(5)J`
Hint : `K.E. = (1)/(2)mv_(cm)^(2)(1+(k^(2))/(R^(2)))`
