Volume of a tyre 10 litre when inflated ...

Volume of a tyre 10 litre when inflated The tyre is inflated to a pressure of 3atm at `17^(@)C` with air Due to driving the temperature of tyre increases to `47^(@)C`
(a) What would be the pressure at this temperature
(b) How many litre of air measured at `47^(@)C` and pressure of 1 atm should be let out to restore the tyre of `3cm` at `47^(@)C` ? .

(a) At constant volume,
`(P_(1))/(T_(1)) = (P_(2))/(T_(2))`
or `(3)/(290) = (P_(2))/(320)`
or `P_(2) = (320 xx 3)/(290) = 3.31 atm`
(b) Pressure to be decreased in tyre `= 3.31 - 3.0 = 0.31` atm
Let the volume of the gas to be taken out at 1 atmospheric pressure be V. As the temperature remains constant, i.e., `47^(@)C` Boyle's law can be applied to determine V.
`1 xx V = 0.31 xx 10`
or `V = 3.1` litre
