Assertion :When height of a tube is less...

Assertion :When height of a tube is less than liquid rise in the capillary tube, the liquid does not overflow.
Reason : Product of radius of meniscus and height of liquid in the capillary tube always remains constant.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

C

If assertion is true and reason is false.

D

If both assertion and reason are false.

The correct Answer is:
A

Both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
From equation `hR=(2S)/(rhog)=` a finite constant.
Hence when the tube is of insufficient length, radius of curvature of the liquid meniscus increases, so as to maintain the product hR a finite constant, i.e., as h decrease, R increases and the liquid meniscus becomes more and more flat, but the liquid does not overflow.
