Appreciation of domestic currency means an increase in the value of the domestic currency in terms of foreign currency. It implies that one unit of foreign currency can be exchanged for less rupees for example, if price of 1 $ falls from Rs 55 to Rs 50.
Exporters do not favour this because it would discourages exports India because with same one unit foreign currency, less goods can be purchased from India.
