There are 4 red and 5 white balls in a bag. A ball is drawn at random and then again a ball is drawn from the remaining balls. Find the probability that both drawn balls are red.

The correct Answer is:

For first red ball
No. of favourable ways `=4`
Total number of outcomes `=4+5=9`
Probability of drawing first red ball `=4/9`
Now there are 3 red and 5 white balls remaining in the bag.
For second red ball.
No. of favourable ways `=3`
Total number of outcomes `=3+5=8`
Probability of drawing second red ball `=3/8`
The events of drawing two balls in this way are independent events.
Therefore, the probability that both balls drawn are red `=4/9xx3/8=1/6`
