DNA Finger Printing. Hypervariable regions have variable numer of tandem repeats (VNTRs) of short nucleotide indicidual (except for monzygotic twins). Variations also occur due to mutantison, small deletions or insertions. Therefore, DNA cut by a particular endonuclease will have different lengths in different persons. The phenomenon is called retriction fragment length polymorphism or RFLP. DNA fragments are separated by means of restriction endonycleases and then gel electrophoresia. The gel is transferred to nitrocellulose filter, hybridised with radioactive DNA probe and the bands identified by autoradiography. The technique is useful in identifying individuals from their semen, bloor or tissues and resolution of parenthood disputes.
