Out of electron and proton which one will have, a higher velocity to produce matter waves of the same wavelength ? Explain it.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

According to de Broglie equation , `lambda=(h)/(mv)`
Since both electron and proton are to have the same wavelength `(lambda)` and h is constant, therefore,
`m_(e)v_(e)=m_(p)v_(p)`
Now, `m_(e)` is very small as compared to `m_(p)`. Therefore, `v_(e)` will be higher as compared to `v_(p)`.
