A certain element 'A' undergoes photoelectric emission when bombarded by one photon of indigo light. When the material containing the same element was bombarded by two photons of red light with a total of same energy as that of indigo photon, no electron was emitted. Explain.

It may be noted that an electron can absorb only one photon at a time and not two photons. Since the energy of the incident photon of red light is less than the threshold energy, photoelectric effect will not take place or no electron will be emitted.
