Classify the following species into Lewis acid and Lewis base and show how these act as such.
a. `overset(Θ)OH` b. `F^(Θ)` c. `H^(o+)` d. `BCI_(3)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`(a) OH^(-)` ions can donate an electron pair and act as Lewis base.
`(b) F^(-)` ions can donate and electron pair and act as Lewis base.
`(c) H^(+)` ions can accept an electron pair and act as Lewis acid.
`(d) BCI_(3)` can accept an electron pair since Boron atom is electron deficient. It is a Lewis acid.
