Why is distilled water a compound while tap water a mixture ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Distilled water contains only `H_(2)O` molecules since it is free from impurities. It is therefore, a compound. Since some impurities such as dust particles etc. are normally mixed with tap water, it is, therefore, a mixture.
