In the combustion of methane, why is methane regarded s the limiting reactant ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Methane `(CH_(4))` is regarded as the limiting reactant because air or oxygen is always present in excess. The amounts of `CO_(2) and H_(2)O` formed in the reaction depend upon the amount of methane only. Therefore, it is regarded as the limiting.
