16 g of an ideal gas SO(X) occupies 5.6 ...

16 g of an ideal gas `SO_(X)` occupies 5.6 L at S.T.P. What is its molecular mass ? What is the value of X ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
`x = 2, SO_(2)`

5.6 L of the gas at S.T.P weigh = 16 g
22.4 L of the gas at S.T.P. weigh `= ((1.6g))/((5.6L))xx(22.4L)=64g`
By definition, molar mass of gas `(SO_(X))=64g`
`:. 32+x(16)=64or16x=64-32=32orx=2`
Value of x = 2 and the gas `= SO_(2)`
