Consider the reaction: a. 6CO(2)(g)+6H...

Consider the reaction:
a. `6CO_(2)(g)+6H_(2)O(l)rarr C_(6)H_(12)O_(6)(aq)+6O_(2)(g)`
b. `O_(3)(g)+H_(2)O_(2)(l) rarr H_(2)O(l)+2O_(2)(g)`
Why it is more appropriate to write these reaction as: a.
`6CO_(2)(g)+12H_(2)O(l) rarr C_(6)H_(12)O_(6)(aq)+6H_(2)O(l)+6O_(2)(g)`
`O_(3)(g)+H_(2)O_(2)(l) rarr H_(2)O(l)+O_(2)(g)+O_(2)(g)`
also suggest a technique to investigate the path of the above (a) and (b) redox reactions.

In suphur dioxide `(SO_(2))` and hyudrogen peroxide `(H_(2)O_(2))`, the oxidation states of sul[phur and oxygen are +4 and -1 respectively. Since thgey can incrase as well as decrease when these copmpound take part in chemical reacions they can act as oxidising as well as reducing agents. For example,

In ozone `(O_(3))`, the oxidtion stare of oxygen is zero while in nitric acid `(HNO_(3))` ,the oxidation state is nitrogen is +5 Since both them can undergo decrease in oxidation state and not an increse in its value they can act only as oxidising agents and not as reducing agents
