Calcium is a member of alkaline earth family (group 2 elements). Earths crust contains about 3.4 percent calcium. The main ores of calcium are lime stone, calcite or chalk `(CaCO_(3))`, gypsum `(CaSO_(4).2H_(2)O)` and fluroite `(CaF_(2))`. Metallic calcium is obtained by the electrolysis of molten calcium chloride.
