Express the relationship between the rate of formation of water and rate of disappearance of oxygen in the following reaction.
`2H_(2)+O_(2)to 2H_(2)O`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Rate of formation of water `=d/(dt)[H_(2)O]`
Rate of disappearance of oxygen = `-d/(dt)[O_(2)]`
The two are related as: `(-d)/(dt)[O_(2)]=1/2d/(dt)[H_(2)O]` or `d/(dt)[H_(2)O] = 2 xx (-d/(dt))[O_(2)]`
