What modification can you suggest for Hardy-Schulze Law ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

According to Hardy-Schulze Law, the ions carrying charge opposite to the charge on sol particles neutralise their charge and thus cause their coagulation or precipition. The law takes into account the charge carried by the ion and not its size. Smaller the size of the ion, more will be its polarising power. Thus, the law should be modified in terms of the polarising power of the flocculating ion or the ion causing the precipitions. The modified form of the law states than
"Greater the polarising power of the flocculating ion adde, greater is its power to cause precipitation."
