The lead i.e., `(C_(2)H_(5))_(4)` Pb to the extent of `0.01%` in mixed with gasoline (petrol) to give leaded gasoline. Its aim is to reduced knocking in the engine of the automobile and enehance its efficiency. However, lead gets deposited on the surface of catalytic converter and renders it unfit for use after sometime. Now a days. it is recommended to use unleaded gasoline.
