Although carbon and hydrogen are better ...

Although carbon and hydrogen are better reducing agents but they are not used to reduce metallic oxides at high temperatures. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Both carbon and hydrogen which are otherwise good reducing agents are not so effective at high temperature because they convert pure metals formed in the process to their corresponding metal carbides and metal hydrides. However, it does not happen at low temperature.
