Silver atom has completely filled `d` orbitals `(4d^(10))` in its ground state. How can you say it is a transition element?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The configuration of silver is `[Kr]4d^(10)5s^(1)`. It acquires `4d^(10)` configuration by losing `5s^(1)` electron. Moreover, the last electon is filled in the 4d sub-shell. Threfore , the element is regarded as a transition metals.
