Why are `pi-"complexes"` known for transition metals only?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Since transition metal atoms have either half-filled or vacant d-orbitals, they can accept ligands with electron density resulting in `p(pi)-dpi` bonding. Therefore, `pi`-complexes ar possible.
