How many grams of glucose must be added to 0.5 liter of a solution so that its osmotic pressure is same as that of a solution of 9.2 g of glucose dissolved in a liter?

A

1.15

B

9.22

C

2.31

D

4.6

The correct Answer is:
D

Given ,
`(V_i)` , intitial volume of solution = 0.5 L
`(V_f)`, final volume of solution = 1.0 L
` (W_f)`, amount of glucose dissolve is final solution = 9.2g and molar mass of glucose = 180
For `pi_(i) = pi_(f)`
`[ (W)/(M xx V)]_(i)^(f) = [ (W)/(M xx V) ]_f`
(`because` T and R are constant also M for the are same . )
` therefore [ W/V]_i = [W/V]_f " " (W_i)/(0.5) = (9.2)/(1)`
` therefore W_(i) = 9.2 xx 0.5 " " W_f = 4.6 g1`
Hence, 4.6 g of glucose is dissolved in 0.5 L of water to get the same osmotic presssure .
