A particular reaction has a rate constant `1.15 xx 10^(-3) s^(_1)` . How long does it take for 6 g of the reactant of reduce to 3 g?(log 2 = 0.301)

A

301s

B

603 s

C

840 s

D

15 s

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Given , rate constant ` (k) = 1.15 xx 10^(-3) s^(-1)`
Reaction time = ?
Initial amount of reactant `(A_0) = 6g`
Final amount of reactant `(A_f) = 3g`
From rate constant equation ,
`k = (2.303)/(t) "log" (A__0)/(A_f)`
` 1.15 xx 10^(-3) = (2.303)/(t) " log " 6/3`
`t = (2.303)/(1.15 xx 10^(-3) ) "log" = (2.303)/(1.15 xx 10^(-3) ) xx 3010`
` t = .6027 xx 10^(+3) s`
or ` t = 603 s `
