For what values of k will the following ...

For what values of k will the following pan of linear equations have infinitely many solutions?
`k x+3y-(k-3)=0`
`12 x+k y - k=0`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

as we know that `a_1x+b_1y+c_1 = 0`
`a_2x+b_2y+c_2=0`
has infinity solutions only when
`a_1/a_2 = b_1/b_2 = c_1/c_2`
so here, `k/12= 3/k = -(k-3)/(-k)`
`k/12= 3/k`
`k^2 = 36`
`k= +-6`
