Joseph jogs from one end A to the other end B of a straight 300 m road in 2 min 50 s and then turns around and jogs 100 m back to point C in another 1 min. What are Joseph's average speeds and velocities in jogging (i) from A to B and (ii) from A to C ?

Given, Distance covered = 300 m,
Time = 2 min `50 s = (2xx60)+50 s = 170 s`

(i) Average speed `=("Distance covered")/("Time")=(300)/(170)=1.76 ms^(-1)`
Average velocity `=("Displacement along AB")/("Time")`
`=(300)/(170)=1.76 ms^(-1)` along AB
(ii) When joseph turns around fron B to C to towards A.
Average speed `=("Distance covered")/("Time")=(400)/(230)=1.7 ms^(-1)`
Average velocity `=("Distance AC")/("Time")=(200)/(230)` along AC
`0.87 ms^(-1)` along AC
