Distance between the slit shown in figur...

Distance between the slit shown in figure is `d = 20 lambda`, where `lambda` is the wavelength of light used. Find the angle `theta` where
a. central maxima (where path difference is zero) is obtained, and
b. third-order maxima is obtained.

Ray 1 has a longer path than that of ray 2 by a distance d `sin 45^(@)` before reaching the slits. Afterwords ray 2 has a path longer than ray 1 by a distance `d sin theta` The net path difference is therefore, `d sin theta -d sin 45^(@)`
(i) Central maximum is obtained, where not path difference is zero or
`d sin theta-d sin 45^(@) =0 or theta=45^(@)`
(ii) Third order maxima is obtained, where net path difference is `3lambda`
or `d sin theta -d sin 45^(@)=3lambda`
`:. sin theta = sin 45^(@)+(3lambda)/d`
Putting `d=20 lambda`
we have `sin theta=sin 45^(@)+(3lambda)/(20 lambda) or theta ~~59^(@)`

The maximum intensity in young's double-slit experiment is I_(0) . Distance between the slit is d = 5 lambda , where lambda is the wavelength of monochromatic light used in the experiment. What will be the intensity of light in front of one of the slits on a screen at a distance D = 10 d ?

In the Young's double-slit experiment, the intensity of light at a point on the screen where the path difference is lambda is K ( lambda being the wave length of light used). The intensity at a point where the path difference is lambda/4 , will be

In a YDSE, distance between the slits and the screen is 1m, separation between the slits is 1mm and the wavelength of the light used is 5000nm . The distance of 100^(th) maxima from the central maxima is:

In a double slit experiment, the separation between the slits is d and distance of the screen from slits is D. If the wavelength of light used is lambda and I is theintensity of central bright fringe, then intensity at distance from central maximum is

Assertion: In the figure shown, zero order maxima will lie above point O. Reason: Zero order maxima normally means a point where path difference is zero.
