Calculate median of the following of data :
`{:("Class Interval",0-5,5-10,10-20,20-30,30-50,50-70,70-100),("Number of Students"," "12," "15," "25," "40," "42," "14," "8):}`

In such distributions , no specific treatment of the data is needed. Meadian can calculated straight away as in the case of other frequency distributions.

M= Size of `((N)/(2))` th item , N= 156
= size of `((156)/(2))` th item
= Size of 78 th item
This lies in 92 th cumulative frequency and the corresponding Median class is 20 30.
`:. l_(1)=20,c.f=52,f=40and i=10`.
Substituting the values in the foemula, we have
`M=l_(1)+(N/(2)-c.f.)/(f)xxi`
`=20+(156/(2)-52)/(40)xx10`
`=20+(78-52)/(40)xx10=20+(26)/(40)xx10`
`=20+6.5=26.5`
Median = 26.5.
