The mean of 1,7,5,3,4 and 4 is m. The numbers 3,2,4,2,3,3 and p have mean m-1. Find m and p.

Since the mean of 1,7,5,3,4 and 4 is m, we have
`m=(1+7+5+3+4+4)/(6) = (24)/(6) = 4`
Thus, the value of m is 4
Now, the numbers 2,3,4,2,3,3 and p have mean m - 1, i.e., 3
So, `3 = (3+2+4+2+3+3+p)/(7)`
`rArr 21 = 17+p therefore p=4`
